Today’s weather forecast was correct; rain poured steadily most of the day in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Luckily, we hadn’t planned any touring today and used the day to catch up on web postings from our hotel room.
After reading about Slovenia’s famous thermal spas, (and getting a little stir crazy) we decided to try the local water park and thermal spa, Atlantis Adventure World http://www.atlantis-vodnomesto.si/
From the website, we saw that special train would take us to the part – leaving at 7:45 pm and returning around 10:15 pm. After a rainy, cool day, what better way to relax that a huge complex of indoor thermal spas?
Out in the rain we trudged, locating the train. We were the only ones on it. At Adventure World, we learned that the thermal temple was closed for cleaning but we could still use the water park. Since there was no return for several hours, we decided to proceed.
What we experienced was somewhat different than our expectations from the website. The whirlpools didn’t whirl, the water was lukewarm at best and if you didn’t bring your own towel (we didn’t) you had to pay 3 Euros to use one.
Cold, we got out of the water, dripped all over the complex to figure out where to rent the towels, dried off and got dressed, only to wait another 1 and ½ hours for our return train. We passed the time with cappuccinos, and then beers.
Jeff was an incredibly good sport about this as the water park/thermal spa idea was not his.
Back near our hotel, the local Pizza Napoli was a welcome sight.
We finished our 4th of July on a brighter note, watching Russia’s televised final presentation to the International Olympic Committee for Sochi to be the host of the 2014 Winter Olympics. It was a great presentation, and more meaningful to us having just visited Sochi in June.
