Today: 3 Travel Tips from 35,000 Feet
We are returning from a long fun-filled weekend in Seattle onboard Southwest flight 3085. To speed the three hours of flight time, we are trying the Southwest Airlines Wi-Fi Hotspot, which is a surprisingly speedy internet connection. Considering ourselves travel lucky today — graced with a strong tailwind, an early arrival and emergency exit row seats – we thought we’d share some of our new-found travel tips with our first inflight blog post.
3 Travel Tips from 35,000 Feet
1. Check out Southwest Wi-Fi Hotspot. If you board a Southwest flight, look for the Wi-Fi Hotspot sign near the door as you board. If you see the sign, your flight is equipped with a wireless satellite-based network that allows you to connect to the internet while in the sky. It costs $5 for the flight, (free if you have A-List status.) Even if you don’t pay to connect, the Wi-Fi Hotspot features a free portal that lets you access a flight trackers, shopping and games like Sudoku. The connection speed is likely slower depending on the number of passengers accessing the network.
2. Need wheels in an urban area? Try Zipcar. While in Seattle, we joined our friends Michael and Marion on their first Zipcar car sharing experience. It was a fantastic way to exploring Seattle’s surrounding areas for six hours. Look for a blog post later this week with full details on our Zipcar experience.
3. Still trying to find a free ticket for your summer vacation? Check out http://www.kvstool.com a subscription-based software tool that searches frequent flier seat availability on all major airlines. Using the kvs tool, we’ve already booked our mileage award tickets to Europe for July. But that doesn’t mean that better seats won’t open up as the departure date nears. Every couple of days, we check availability on all alliance airlines through kvstool.com (and we just checked again while inflight.)
