Water fascinates me. According to my mother, my love affair with water dates to my toddler years, when I was just learning to walk. If there was water nearby –even in a bucket for watering flowers — I was in it.
I love to stare at water. Listen to crashing waves. The roar of waterfalls. The babble of brooks. The gentle lap of water against the shore of a lake.
I like to sail on oceans of water. I find being on water relaxing and peaceful, even when the waves are rough.
I like to swim in water. I love the feeling of weightlessness.
Thankfully, Mr. Jones likes water nearly as much as I do, although he’d rather fish in a stream or ocean rather than swim in it.
When we travel we like to be near water. Since about 72 percent of the Earth’s surface is covered with water, that’s not really that difficult.
We’ve enjoyed water while:
- cruising into the Polar Ice Cap far above the Arctic Circle
- swimming in Iceland’s Blue Lagoon
- gazing into Albania’s Blue Eye
- witnessing the hissing geysers in Rotorua, New Zealand
- being awed by calving glaciers in Alaska’s Glacier Bay
- gawking at a fairy tale castle perched over the Black Sea
- being mesmerized by a water-spouting monster with sparkly eyes
- watching the sun rise while walking on Bali’s beaches
