It’s the holiday season, and the time of year to make those last trips to keep your frequent flier and hotel alliance status. If you are looking for gift ideas for a traveler on your shopping list, here’s our recommendations of travel items that we personally use and love.
1. For the woman who’s trying to travel lighter, we recommend the Tumi Luggage Voyageur Super Leger International Carry-On Bag I’ve been working on traveling lighter for the last 20 years of frequent travel, and this bag is helping convert me to a carry-on traveler. Since it weighs less than 7 pounds, it doesn’t require a major heave to get it into the overhead. The bright, distinctive peacock color helps you find your bag in a sea of black roller bags. The slim width glides down the airline aisle, and the light weight allows you to carry it when necessary without breaking your back.
2. The airlines two carry-on rules just aren’t fair to women who need to carry a laptop computer and a purse along with their suitcase. This Tumi Luggage Voyageur Cortina Boarding Tote is my solution in that is holds my laptop, iPad, files, writing materials, charging cords and my purse, while also sitting firmly in place on the handle of the matching roller bag (above) as I dash between gates.
3. For the male road warrior, or anyone who wants a sturdy carry-on bag, the Tumi T-Tech Presidio Lincoln Frequent Business Traveler suitcase fits the bill. Mr. Jones uses this bag weekly and it stands up to airline abuse when it has to be checked.
4. Packing cubes are a traveler’s best friend, helping you corral sweaters, socks and undies into an organized system. Plus, if your suitcase gets opened in the security screening, clothes don’t spring forth every which way. Ideally, a traveler needs a combination of both Medium and Large
sizes of packing cubes.
5. The key to travel zen? Canceling out the noise you don’t want to hear (think engine noise, screaming babies) and listening clearly to what you do want to hear (your favorite music, podcast or movie). These Klipsch IMAGE S4 In-Ear Noise-Isolating Headphones make a world of difference in travel happiness. What travel gift would you like to receive this year?
