A Charming Snake From A Delightful Airline

I’m not fond of snakes.

Don’t like them one bit.

Cathay Pacific Year of the SnakeYet when this stuffed toy snake arrived yesterday, I was charmed.

The note said “Please find enclosed your very own limited edition Cathay Pacific Year of the Snake doll.  Thank you for your continued support of Cathy Pacific Airways and we hope you had a pleasant journey.”

I was reminded of how much I enjoyed flying Cathay Pacific.

Even when flying nearly 30 hours.

From Chicago to Perth, Australia, via Hong Kong.

In coach.

Cathay PacificThe flights had every seat full, and legroom was a little tight for someone who’s over six feet tall.

Every seat, however, had an inflight entertainment center with more than 300 movies and television shows.

Two full meals were served, with a separate beverage service and help-your-self snacks in-between.

But really sets Cathay Pacific Airways apart from many other airlines is the genuine five-star service — from those who answer the customer service line in Chicago, to the in-flight crews that never seem to rest, to the marketing folks who offer you a free toy snake after you return for flying with the airline during the Chinese New Year.

Cathay PacificFlying Cathay Pacific in Business Class is even better.

In November, 2011, we flew from Chicago to Hong Kong on Cathay in business class using British Airways miles.

Cathay PacificThere’s plenty of room to read the papers, spread out your work, or make your seat go completely flat to get some sleep.

After a few days in Hong Kong, we continued on Cathay Pacific to Bali. (Stopovers are allowed on frequent flier tickets.)

Cathay PacificThe business class seats on this flight were configured in a unique angled formation on the flight to Bali.

Cathay Pacific plane in BaliJust like its “Year of the Snake” toy, Cathay Pacific is a charming airline.

Have you flown on Cathay Pacific? What did you think?
