One of the best things about cruising on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas is the fantastic entertainment.
From ice skaters to high divers to acrobats to fiddlers to Broadway-style musicals, there is something for everyone to enjoy on the high seas.
Best of all, the entertainment is all included in your cruise fare.
Here’s a look at some of the entertainment that we enjoyed on our recent multi-generation cruise on the Oasis of the Seas.
Hairspray, the Tony Award-winning musical comedy, follows the story of Baltimore teen Tracy Turnblad, a girl with big aspirations who wins a spot on “The Corny Collins” show, and catapults to fame. The show provides an eye-opening reminder of the social issues in 1962.
Performed with an elaborate set in the Opal Theater on the Oasis of the Seas, Hairspray will continue its run through September 30, 2014, when the ship heads into dry dock in Europe. After the dry dock, Hairspray will be replaced with the Andrew Loyd Weber musical Cats.
The Headliner Show with the band Savannah Jack was another outstanding performance in the Opal Theater. Don Gatlin, lead vocalist for Savanah Jack, is a superb entertainer, and Matt Thomas Schumacher is a genesis on the fiddle.
We headed to Studio B as soon as the doors opened for the Frozen in Time Ice Show. Arriving early paid off as we scored front row center seats, providing a close-up view of the ice skating action.
During the Frozen in Time ice show, the whimsical world of author Hans Christian Anderson comes to life as the skating programs include The Snow Queen, The Ugly Duckling, The Little Mermaid and more.
We loved the up-close view of the spins, lifts and jumps on ice.
The Oasis of Dreams Aqua Show features lights, music and splash as a cast of professional divers, synchronized swimmers and gymnasts deliver a dynamic performance.
If you sit on the front two rows of the AquaTheater for this show, you are likely to get wet.
A journey of fun, fantasy and escape, the Come Fly With Me production show in the Opal Theater features aerial artistry, dance, acrobats and vocal performance .
The Come Fly With Me sets and costumes are dazzling, and the action-packed performance showcases a wide variety of talented entertainers.
You don’t have to wait until evening for entertainment on the Oasis of the Seas cruise ship. The DreamWorks Move It! Move It! Parade occurs on the Royal Promenade in the afternoon.
The Splish Splash Comedy Dive Show is an afternoon performance in the AquaTheater with a cast of professional divers showing off humorous poolside antics, and unbelievable high-diving from the 60 ft platform into the 17.5 ft-deep pool.
On the Oasis of the Seas, there is a plethora of entertainment every night in the other venues throughout the cruise ship. Options range from a Classical Concert in the Park with the Rosario Strings Duo to a Latin Fiesta to Smooth Jazz with the Seth Burkhart Four in the Jazz on 4 venue.
There is also pub music with Ian, Lize at the Piano in the Schooner Bar, Motown Music with the Southside Band in Dazzles night club and an Absolute After Party with DJ Tic Tac in the Blaze nightclub, which started at 2 am.
Daytime entertainment events included a “Meet the Stars Experience” for Crown and Anchor members, as well as a complimentary Backstage Tour of the Opal Theater.
Finally, there’s Comedy Live with Phil Tag and Jimmy Carol in the intimate 130-seat Comedy Live venue on Deck 4. Shows occur most nights at 9 pm, 10:30 and 11:59 pm with the stand by line opened 5 minutes before each show.
To make the most of the entertainment options on the Oasis of the Seas, you need to book your entertainment online as soon as you book your cruise. Most entertainment venues open 20-30 minutes before the performance for those with reservations. (Your shipboard key card is scanned at the entrance to show your reservation.) At 10 minutes before most shows begin, the venue is open to standby guests without a reservation.
