On Friday night I watched a beautiful sunset from the window as my United flight prepared to land at Montréal – Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, which is located on the Island of Montreal, about 12.5 miles from downtown Montreal, Canada.
I was meeting Mr. Jones in Montreal before we boarded a 7-Day Canada and New England cruise on Holland America’s ms Maasdam.
Since we were both arriving late on a Friday night, and boarding our cruise ship the next morning, we opted to stay at an airport hotel. We chose the Residence Inn Montreal Airport hotel because it included a free shuttle service from the airport. Plus, as a Category 5 Marriott Rewards hotel, we could use our 1-Night Free Stay Award from our Marriott Rewards Premier credit card rather than paying for a hotel. (We love the Marriott Visa card, but it is tougher to use the annual free night benefit as there are fewer and fewer hotels that qualify for Marriott Rewards Categories 1-5.)
Here’s a look inside room 5527 at the Residence Inn Montreal Airport Hotel
Neither of us had stayed in a Residence Inn for quite a while, so we weren’t sure what to expect. The Residence Inn brand is designed to cater to extended-stay business and family travelers, with many of the accommodations including a kitchen and separate living areas.
Room 5527 has a living room with a work desk, sectional sofa and a flat screen television. While the shuttle ride from the airport takes at least 15 minutes, you can hear the planes taking off and landing.
The other side of the living room is a kitchen and dining area. The hotel had a market pantry area where you could buy food.
Or, you could go to the restaurant next door in the adjoining Courtyard Marriott hotel. I chose this option. While the food was good, the kitchen was closing at 10:30 pm, and I was there with a number of other hungry travelers who had just arrived, swamping the restaurant at its closing time.
Through double doors off the living room was the bedroom, with a very comfortable bed.
The bathroom and sliding-door closet were located off of the bedroom.
Our bottom line on the Residence Inn Montreal Airport Hotel:
- We found the staff to be professional and helpful. When Mr. Jones arrived just before the shuttle service ended at 1:30 am, the driver looked out for him.
- The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and offer plenty of room to spread out for work or multiple family members.
- The hotel is a good deal as a Marriott Rewards Category 5 hotel, which means you can use the annual free night award perk from the Marriott Rewards Visa credit card here.
- Complimentary breakfast is served, but after a very late night arrival and a long week, we slept through the breakfast hour.
- The late-night dining option could be better for an airport hotel.
