For our recent cruise to Alaska on Holland America’s Eurodam, we had originally booked an inside guarantee stateroom.
When we got our cabin assignment, we were not excited about it even though it was a 7-category upgrade within the inside “meta category”.
Luckily, a special paid upgrade became available two days before our departure. We paid to upgrade to Verandah Stateroom 5078.
Here is a look inside Verandah Stateroom #5078
This is the view when you first walk into cabin #5078, located on deck five mid-ship. Cabin # 5078 is a category V stateroom, the highest (i.e. most expensive) category of verandah stateroom on the Eurodam.
This cabin has two lower beds that can be converted to a queen-size bed as shown in the photo above.
The large panel of mirrors behind the headboard reflects light and makes the cabin seem larger (in addition to being useful when getting ready for dinner.)
Cabin #5078 is designated as a triple, with space for three guests. If there is a third passenger in the cabin, this sofa would be converted into a bed each evening.
All cabins that accommodate three guests are marked by a “0” symbol on the Eurodam deck plan.
The storage cabinets above the sofa contain blue wool plaid blankets — perfect for wrapping up in while watching the glaciers calve when the ship is in Glacier Bay.
Note the silver fruit bowl on the coffee table in the photo above. There is a card in it that you check with the kind of fresh fruit you want, and the bowl is refilled daily. (We checked bananas and pears, but could have added apples and oranges.)
This stateroom features floor-to-ceiling windows, and a lockable door that opens onto the balcony.
Just to the right of the verandah door is a desk and a hidden refrigerator/ mini-bar. This is also where the ice bucket lives, which our room stewards re-filled twice a day.
Other key features in this desk area are the electric plugs and USB ports. There are both European and U.S. plugs, as well as several USB ports for charging various smartphones, tablets and other devices.
There are also USB charging ports on each side of the bed, very important for those of us who use are smartphones as alarm clocks. (This was a nice improvement since our prior cruise on the Eurodam.)
Another upgrade on the Eurodam is the flat screen entertainment system, with complimentary on-demand movies and television shows, as well as live television channels as well as shipboard information channels.
This cabin has three large, spacious closets with bars in each for hanging clothes on wooden hangers, as well as fold-down shelves for folded clothes.
We appreciate the three study wall hooks.
They are prefect for hanging coats, caps, belts, purses, and freshly pressed laundry done by the ship. Unlimited free laundry and pressing is a perk for 4 and 5 star Mariners that we love.
In the bathroom, the combination shower/tub features as adjustable shower head, and easy access to Elemis brand shampoo, conditioner and body wash.
One side of the sink has water glasses.
The other side features storage shelves, although I prefer the storage are under the sink for heavier items.
While we don’t usually care if we have a verandah in our cabin, we did find it handy to take in the fantastic Inside Passage and Alaska views.
