Chicago’s Best Brunch Happy Hour Deal

While spending a recent December weekend in Chicago with our Alaskan friend James, we were in search of good Bloody Marys in the Loop/River North neighborhoods.

A quick search using the Happy Houred iPhone app  led us to Rockit Bar and Grill at 22 W. Hubbard for $5 Bloody Marys.   Once inside at the bar, we discovered they were delicious Absolut Peppar Bloody Marys.  Included was a trip to the “Build Your Own Gourmet Bloody Mary Bar” – a huge salad-bar-like buffet offering every type of ingredient one could ever imagine putting into or on the side of a Bloody Mary.

Just as we were finishing our round, we discovered another unbelievable deal at this bar and grill – the Veuve Clicquot Mimosa Kit. For only $50, a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Champagne, served with sliced strawberries and four carafes of fresh juices to make your own mimosas.  We could not bring ourselves to use much of the fruit juice, but we enjoyed one of our favorite champagnes at an unbelievably good price.

The mimosa kit is only $35 if you choose Domaine Chandon sparkling wine rather than the Veuve.

This deal is offered with the brunch menu served Saturday and Sunday between 10:30 am and 4 pm.   We also enjoyed the live music.  Check out the brunch menu here.

Photo Friday: Meditative Beach at Sunrise, Bali

Meditation plays a large role in the Hindi culture in Bali.  From an early age, Balinese children learn to meditate during temple ceremonies. Perhaps this accounts for the amazing serenity of most Balinese people.

Also the natural beauty of Bali – such as this sunrise photo taken during an early morning beach walk – must contribute the peaceful nature of this destination.

Photo Friday: The Infinity Wedding Chapel

Infinity at the Conrad Bali

For a dreamy destination wedding, we’d choose the Infinity wedding venue at the Conrad Bali Resort.  The beachfront chapel floats on a marble, glass and water structure above sea level, creating infinite depth perception.

The welcoming staff and luxurious accommodations at the Conrad Bali would make it an ideal honeymoon location.

We found Bali romantic, beautiful, and peaceful.  A vacation destination that’s as perfect for celebrating an anniversary as well as a wedding.

Working While Traveling? You Need a Better Mouse

During the last two weeks I was traveling with Mr. Jones on long flights during a working holiday.  I discovered one of his road warrior “toys” and, after using it once, had to have my own.

I’m talking about the Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse

A computer mouse? Well, this is no ordinary mouse.  It’s cool enough to be from Apple, but it’s made by Microsoft.

This mouse starts flat, easy for fitting into your briefcase, computer bag or backpack.

This mouse is wireless and works on just about any surface from slick plastic to rough wood to carpet.  Up to 30 feet away from your computer according to Microsoft, (although I haven’t tested that claim yet.)

To use, you simply remove tiny USB transceiver magnetically connected to the underside of the mouse, and insert it into your computer’s USB port.

When you curve the mouse to fit your hand, it engages the mouse, which responses perfectly on your computer screen to your finger commands.

Whether you are editing documents with tiny type, creating graphic slides or configuring a blog post, this mouse makes the job easier.

It surpasses all other computer tracking devices.  And when you loan your version to a co-worker or your spouse, they will not want to give it back.

Is it any surprise that Mr. Jones got on Amazon straightaway and ordered me my own version? (He’s lucky I didn’t see the Sangria red or the Lucky Dragon versions.

It’s the little things that make working while traveling better: Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse
