We recently stayed five nights in the gleaming new Taipei Marriott hotel in the city’s Dazhi District near the Keelung River. This five-star, 320-room luxury hotel, open for less than a year, is only one of two Marriott-brand hotels in Taipei, and throughout Taiwan. (The other is a recently opened Taipei Courtyard hotel.)
Upon entering the Taipei Marriott hotel, we were amazed by the soaring high ceilings and the colorful wall mural around the reception desk.
Throughout our stay, we enjoyed taking a closer look at the immense detail in this mural.
The Taipei Marriott looks out on the Miramar Entertainment Park – a shopping mall with a 230 feet tall Ferris wheel on it’s rooftop. The hotel is also close to the Neihu Technology Park, the Nangang Software Park and the Taipei World Trade Center.
Closer on the hotel grounds is a steel sculpture with lights changing by the minute to every color in the rainbow.
The hotel has currently offers three places to dine – the Garden Kitchen (where we enjoyed breakfast daily), the Lobby Lounge (where we enjoyed drinks and light dinners such as the beef noodle soup pictured above), and Mark’s Teppanyaki Japanese restaurant (which we did not try.) Two additional restaurants are in development.
The bartenders in the Lobby Lounge excelled at making hand-crafted cocktails like this unique margarita. Notice the hand-carved “M” lemon “twist.”
On the 19th floor, the hotel has a spa, a fitness center, pool and a well-appointed executive lounge. As you can see, the fitness center is spacious and equipped with a variety of exercise machines.
The pool features an open roof for sun-bathing, but is built in to the 19th floor.
Best of all on the 19th floor is the Executive Lounge which is open to Marriott Rewards Platinum members, as well as other select guests. The lounge was open between 10:30 am and 10 pm daily, with all day snacks, sodas, water, coffee and tea. Afternoon tea is served daily between 2:30 – 5 pm, and happy hour with complimentary beer and wine runs daily from 5:30 – 7:30 pm.
During the happy hour, there was always a significant amount of food for snacking on while enjoying the end of the day.
The executive lounge was spacious, well staffed, and not over-crowded. It was one of the best Marriott Executive Lounges that we’ve experienced.
Our bottom line on the Taipei Marriott Hotel:
- The hotel is gleaming new and beautiful.
- The art and architecture are stunning.
- The hotel facilities such as the pool, fitness center and Executive Lounge are top-notch.
- The hotel is a category 6 hotel in the Marriott Rewards program, which we considered an excellent use of points for this five-star luxury hotel.
- The hotel is staffed with friendly, English-speaking youngsters, eager to engage with guests. (Sometimes this became overwhelming as we felt “pounced” on every time we left or arrived at the hotel.)
